Necklace from Old Hebron
A skilled craftsperson created these beautiful earrings from a ceramic plate that was purchased by David Knoppert in Old Hebron, Palestine. Sadly, the plate broke on the way home from Hebron, but the broken pieces were transformed into exquisite jewelry. Location London, ON.
David writes: “Hebron is special; the circumstances there are unlike anywhere else in Palestine. This was where I first really felt the oppression of the Israeli Army and the settlers. So, I wanted to bring home a plate from the old Hebron market for my wife and myself. Unfortunately the plate was broken during the trip back to Canada. But my wife, Diane, knew someone who specializes in taking pieces like those of the plate and making lovely pieces of jewellery. What a reincarnation, or rebirth, of that lovely plate. I like to imagine that the entire Palestine is like that plate - shattered into many pieces but will be reborn into something wonderful.”
